For some, life without cereal isn’t imaginable. It’s the quickest, easiest, and often the tastiest way to get you through your morning routine before you start your day. Those without braces get a free pick at whatever box of delights they want from the store shelves. However, those with braces have to be a lot more careful. This leads us to today’s subject. Fruity Pebbles. Can you still eat them? So, let’s take a look, shall we?
So, can you eat Fruity Pebbles With braces? You shouldn’t eat Fruity Pebbles with braces as they can cause them damage. This is because Fruity Pebbles have a texture that is hard, crunchy, and chewy, that when bitten into, can force your wires to bend and your brackets to pop off. Fruity Pebbles can also give you tooth decay, as they are high in sugar and likely to get stuck in your brackets, leaving behind an excess of sugary bacteria.
Oh no!
Not great news to receive, is it!
But there are a few ways you may be able to still consume them from time to time.
We will get into that shortly, along with some other great alternatives.
But let’s first continue to explore why they really aren’t an ideal cereal for us brace wearers!

Why Shouldn’t You Eat Fruity Pebbles With Braces?
You shouldn’t eat Fruity Pebbles with braces as their texture can cause damage to your braces, whilst their high sugar content means they make your teeth susceptible to decay and cavities.
When Fruity Pebbles say their cereal ‘rocks your whole mouth,’ they’re not kidding. Their hard, crunchy, and chewy texture just isn’t ideal, sadly.
Let me explain why.
Hard, Chewy Texture
Cereals, like Fruity Pebbles, with hard, chewy, and crunchy textures, are much tougher for your teeth to get through when eating.
When you bite into a Fruity Pebble, a lot of pressure, stress, and tension is put on your teeth. When you wear braces, this is all transferred onto your braces as well.
The force can be so great that it causes your brackets to pop off or your wires to bend.
With your braces broken, you’ll have to revisit your orthodontist to have them refitted.
Each time they are refitted, the time for which you have to wear your braces is increased.
This is why you really have to be careful with what you subject your braces to. Otherwise, you could be wearing them for the rest of your life.
High Sugar Content
Additionally, cereals like Fruity Pebbles are high in sugar content.
Cereals that are hard, crunchy, and chewy find it easier to get stuck in your brackets.
That sugar content also helps them out as they’re stickier, meaning it’s no problem to set up shop in your brackets.
The danger here, though, is that if they are left in your brackets, Fruity Pebbles can leave an excess of sugary bacteria that can lead to tooth decay and cavities.
Sure, you can have a crack at trying to remove them with your toothbrush, but it will be a difficult task that you cannot afford to fail with.
How You May Be Able To Eat Fruity Pebbles With Braces
You may be able to eat Fruity Pebbles with braces if you limit consumption, modify their texture and maintain impeccable dental hygiene.
Limit Consumption
Not that I would accuse you of eating a ton of Fruity Pebbles in one sitting, but the first precaution to take is to limit consumption.
The more sugary foods you eat that are hard and chewy in texture, the higher the risks of brace damage and tooth decay.
This means Fruity Pebbles must be regulated just like any other food possessing these characteristics.
Oh, and best not to put even more sugar on top either.
Making Them Soggy
One of the main reasons people love Fruity Pebbles so much is because of that hard, crunchy, and chewy texture.
Unfortunately, if you decide that you still want to eat them whilst you have braces, then you’re going to need to enjoy them another way.
To enjoy Fruity Pebbles, we need them to be soft so that the risks of brace damage are significantly reduced.
We do this by leaving them in the bowl of milk to go soggy and soft. No matter how long it takes!
Chew slowly and carefully, using your back teeth.
And never eat them plain when they’re at their hardest, crunchiest, and chewiest.
Drink Water After
Take a big drink of water after eating Fruity Pebbles to rinse the excess sugar they have left behind out of your mouth.
Dental Hygiene
If we’re talking about the safety of our teeth, cleaning them is always going to come in at some point.
So as you might have suspected, we need to clean our teeth after eating Fruity Pebbles. But not immediately.
Instead, you should wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth so that you allow your teeth’s enamel to return to its normal hard state after any sugary acids have softened it.
Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. You should be trying to remove any bits of Fruity Pebbles that have made your brackets their new home.
If a toothbrush doesn’t suffice, then you may need to get the dental floss out.
Tie a knot in the floss’ string and carefully use this to remove Fruity Pebbles from wherever you find them.
Alternatives To Fruity Pebbles To Eat With Braces
Sadly, Fruity Pebbles don’t get the all-clear. There are ways around this truth; however, if you really want to keep those risks of brace damage and tooth decay to a minimum, then it’s time to put Fruity Pebbles away for now….but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch all cereals!
Fortunately, we live in a world of abundance when it comes to cereals. There are so many great ones to pick out to substitute for your Fruity Pebbles.
When identifying these cereals, look out for those that are soft, easily chewable, and low in sugar content. These cereals are the ones that will pose low threats of brace damage and tooth decay.
Rice cereals are a particularly good alternative as they possess all of these characteristics.
And always look to avoid those with added sugar.
