Best Candy for Dry Mouth • The 5 That Will Help •

Do you suffer from a dry mouth? Then you’re going to need to find some candy to suck on to help alleviate the problem. The problem is that some candies can actually make it worse. So I decided to pull together a helpful list of candies that will serve as terrific remedies while also giving you some insight into the kinds you’ll want to avoid.

So let’s delve in, shall we?

Best Candy For A Dry Mouth

There are many great candies out there that will help you when dry mouth comes along.

We’ll talk more later about what makes a candy good or not good for dry mouth.

For now, below are my top five picks.

Please note that all of these great candies can be bought off of Amazon. I buy all my candy from here because you can get great bulk deals at money-saving prices, all delivered directly to your door in no time at all!

Cotton Mouth Candy

Cotton is a dry material, but don’t be alarmed by its presence in this candies name.

Cotton Mouth Candy will actually prevent and cure dry mouth. Its natural ingredients will produce more saliva in your mouth, which is the way to cure dry mouth.

It’s a delicious sugar-free hard candy that is sweetened naturally and is absent of any fat. They come in some truly lovely flavors, including their fruit mix and sour mix.

One of the great candies to come out of our beloved United States of America.

Mentos Clean Breath

I’ve mentioned these bad boys before as not only do they aid dry mouth, but they also help with bad breath (as the name suggests).

Mentos are a renowned mint brand famous across the globe.

Generally, mints are good for dry mouth because you have to suck on them, which helps produce more saliva, which in turn fights dry mouth.

Their best line of mints for fighting dry mouth is their Clean Breath product. This is because they are sugar-free, unlike the original mentos.

By being sugar-free, they can help generate more saliva and reduce the risks of dry mouth.

Plus, they are absolutely delicious.

Jolly Ranchers Hard Candy

Jolly Ranchers are one of my favorite lines of candy that Hershey’s produces.

A hard candy that comes in plenty of delicious flavors, including Orange, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry, Pineapple, Cherry, Peach, Watermelon, Grape, Strawberry, Fruit Punch, Lemon, Golden Pineapple, Mango, and Lime.

As they are hard candy, you have to suck on Jolly Ranchers before you eat them. This sucking will produce the saliva your mouth needs to get rid of any dryness.

So you get to avoid dry mouth whilst eating a tasty candy. What’s not to love?

Sugar-Free Life Savers

Time for another hard candy, and it’s potentially my favorite of its kind.

Life Savers are enjoyable to eat and excellent for combatting dry mouth. You have to suck them, which in turn produces saliva. And they’re sugar-free, which in turn reduces the chances of dry mouth developing.

It’s just a bonus that they’ll mask any bad breath you’re experiencing, which is a common symptom of dry mouth! Win, win, win, win!

Our final candy on today’s list is a rather unusual one.

A sugar-free hard candy from Germany, of all places!

These caramel delights will give your taste buds a good time, but they also possess the same dry-mouth-fighting qualities that the other candies on this list have.

They produce saliva when you suck them, and they’re sugar-free.

By now, you should know that these are the ingredients needed to defeat dry mouth with candy!

What Types Of Candy Are Best For A Dry Mouth?

The best types of candy for dry mouth are those that help generate saliva and those that are low in sugar or even sugar-free.

Saliva is the key weapon against dry mouth. All the candies that can help you fight it, like the ones on the list above, are merely ammunition.

These candies are ones that often require you to suck on them. If you suck on them, you produce saliva, and that will help with your dry mouth.

So it’s important to eat candies that can increase the amount of saliva being produced in your mouth.

Sugar-free chewing gums and sugar-free candies are perfect for building up the flow of saliva.

Why sugar-free? Because too much sugar causes dehydration and dry mouth.

So let’s summarise the theory:

Sugar-free Candy that makes your mouth produce saliva will succeed in defeating dry mouth.

There are plenty of candies to choose from. Due to the nature of the requirements, they’ll often be ones that you have to chew a lot or suck on. These are two key actions that produce saliva.

Lollipops and hard candies are great.

Chewing gum, of course.

Lozenges are a really healthy alternative as well.

You also want candies that won’t stick as well. Candies that are sticky and stick in your mouth are a problem that we’ll discuss later.

You’ll want to make sure you’re picking the right candies for dry mouth.

Because dry mouth isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s actually quite harmful.

Dry mouths allow plaque to accumulate on your teeth very quickly, which increases your chances of suffering cavities.

So stick to the hard candies (or chewing gum) that produce lots of saliva.

And one more time, just for luck…go for sugar-free or at least low sugar content.

What Candy To Avoid With A Dry Mouth?

You want to avoid candies that are high in sugar, acidic, and sticky.

These are the three key things to look out for. So let’s talk through them all quickly.

High In Sugar

You’ll have noticed that at least the vast majority of the candies on my top 5 list were sugar-free. That’s because sugar-free candies pose less of a threat of dry mouth.

Too much sugar can create a dry mouth because it actually dehydrates, similarly to alcohol.

Think about it. Have you ever been thirsty? Sure you have. To try and quench your thirst, you might have had a can of sugary soda. Do you remember if your thirst felt quenched? Or did you actually just want to drink more?

This happens because sugar dehydrates us. What’s a symptom of dehydration? Yes, dry mouth.

So too much sugar will only make dry mouth worse, not better.

Best to stick to those low-sugar candies instead!

Acidic

Candies and foods that are acidic will harm your mouth if it is dry. When your mouth is dry, it lacks saliva.

Saliva is so important for several reasons. One of those reasons is that saliva protects your mouth from bacteria.

If your protective saliva isn’t there because of dry mouth, then it can’t protect your mouth.

So, if you eat an acidic candy or food, the saliva will not protect your teeth from the acid.

At the same time, the rest of your mouth will be left vulnerable to any bacteria the acidic food comes with.

Sticky

Finally, if a candy is sticky, then it will find it easy to set up shop in your mouth for a while.

If this candy is high in sugar or is acidic, then it will be left in your mouth to inflict all the damage we have just spoken about.

Except if it’s sticky, it will stay there even longer to inflict the damage. And it will be harder to clear out.

Other Remedies For Dry Mouths

Many tasty non-candy foods can aid with dry mouth. These are foods that contain little or no sugar, help generate saliva and keep you hydrated. Let’s talk through some.

Foods

If you have trouble with dry mouth, you’ll want to stick to a diet that contains high amounts of protein.

You’ll also want to incorporate as much fluid into your diet as possible. So eating meals with liquid sauces and other condiments will help reduce dry mouth symptoms.

Other softer foods like chicken, fish, peanut butter, pasta, oatmeal, and blended fruit/ vegetables will all work towards reducing dry mouth.

Drinks

Water is obviously the most suitable option. If you drink plenty of water, which of course doesn’t contain any sugar, it will keep you hydrated whilst also generating lots of salvia.

Drinking too much water may become mundane. Don’t worry; there are other tasty drinks you can still enjoy to combat and prevent dry mouth.

You should aim to consume other drinks that meet the same criteria. So, sugar-free juices would be a good shout.

Herbal teas and low-sugar sodas are good too.

Finally

Hopefully, you don’t have to endure dry mouth too much in your light.

Candy can be an exceptional ally in this battle.

So long as you get the right ones.

So invest in those saliva-producing candies.

That’s the secret. That’s the solution.

Good luck!
